Barnola is more than just granola. It’s about family, culture, and community for owner and baker, Aisha Thompson.

“It started with my kids,” says the mother of three. She began making granola after struggling to find a healthy option that worked with her children’s nut allergies. Even the name is kid-inspired.

“My daughter couldn’t pronounce granola. She kept saying, ‘barnola’.” The name is also a nod to how the granola is packaged—in sheets or thin bars instead of crumbles.

Originally from the Caribbean, Aisha enjoys combining unique spices to create some savory flavors along with the sweet. She’s especially proud of her signature flavor, Island Spice, made with nutmeg and ginger. “It’s a way to introduce a bit of my culture to people.”
